Sleek, superb value for the money

I first bought an Acer 11.6" laptop with SU3500 Intel processor. That unit was ridiculously fast but I found it to be a bit small for my taste. I researched around and landed on this Acer 13.3" laptop and boy, am I happy I bought this one. It has a bit faster SU4100 Processor and huge 4GB of RAM. I get almost 8 hours of continuous usage on one battery charge.

At 3.5 lbs and only 1 inch thick, this is just the right size for someone on the go. Windows take a snappy 58 seconds to load when you first hit that power button. Only one thing that I don't care about is the glossy flat keys. I am getting used to it, however.

Metal finish is gorgeous. The whole unit feels totally solid. LCD screen is one of the best in the business. I considered getting a comparable HP but it was 0.75 lbs heavier for $50 more and Apple at $2000 is just a plain absurd idea.

You cannot go wrong with this machine.
Great budget thin and light laptop

This is a fantastic little machine that will blow you away when you see it in person.

Pros:

1. Extremely thin and light
2. No optical drive (to me, this is a pro, others not)
3. Easy to use, quiet keyboard
4. Amazing battery life
5. 4GB DDR3 RAM and expandable to 8GB
6. Windows 7
7. Minimal bloatware
8. Strong wifi reception (also, wifi-n)
9. HDMI Out
10. Nice touch pad with multi gesture and multi touch

Cons:
1. No bluetooth
2. Keyboard can feel a little 'plastic-y'
3. Speakers are a little weak

Overall, this laptop has really impressed me. If you are looking for that middle ground between netbooks and full fledged notebooks, this (or a similar Timeline model) is right for you.

The overall feel of the laptop is very impressive. The aluminum case makes the machine feel very sturdy while also being very light.

The keyboard is a pleasure to type on, even though sometimes it feels a little plastic-y and slightly flimsy.

Booting this machine up for the first time was also a pleasure. Windows 7 guides you through a few setup steps and you're set. It even helps you set up your initial wifi connection, which worked immediately.

Excellent well made laptop

I have used and worked on hundreds of laptops. This is one of the top 5 laptops I've used. It is very elegant and well designed.
Very light, thin, sturdy and great battery life (as advertised). Battery life depends also on how you use the laptop, brightness settings on the LCD is a big factor.
It has is a full size keyboard. Gorgeous screen. The botton on the mousepad to disable accidental touching while typing is a nice touch.
To preserve battery life obviously Acer can't put the fastest and greatest processor. The speed of the laptop is more than sufficient to power and run most programs. Bottom line this is a great buy for the price and features that you get. If you plan on editing photos or videos, then you probably better of with something with bigger screen.
I thought this was more elegant than the Asus counterpart.
Light and Good

I bought this to replace my old 12.1" Averatec. Installing Ubuntu 9.10 is pretty easy. The only thing does not work right after installation was wi-fi. Just need to connect through ethernet to download wi-fi driver. Everything works fine after that.

This laptop does not have bluetooth. I inserted my old USB IOGEAR dongle. It works just fine. It paired with my Motorola cell phone and IOGEAR bluetooth mouse without issue. I was able to browse files on cell phones.

The only complaint I have will be the hissing sound. It's pretty low volume but I can hear it. I can hear fan if AC was plug in. It ends up I intentionally unplug AC while I am using it even the AC is readily available.

The battery lasts a long time. Battery lasts about 7 hours in regular use. It lasts about 4 hours if I am constantly watching youtube. Video watching is pretty smooth, no performance issue.
Good compromise: size, weight, price, performance and battery life

Very happy with this purchase. Bought as a second computer to use mainly for web browsing and media applications such as iTunes. The performance is surprisingly good, probably due to the combination of the SU4100 processor, 4 GB RAM and Windows 7. This thing boots up and loads web pages lightning fast compared with my more powerful laptop (which has Vista). 720p videos from YouTube run without a hitch. 1080p videos are a tad choppy, but this is not a big deal for me, since you can't really see the benefit of 720p on a 13 inch screen, let alone 1080p. Yes, 1080p may be more of an issue if you output the video via HDMI, but I'm not using the laptop in that capacity, so I don't mind.

I was debating on whether to purchase this or the similarly specd Toshiba T135-S1310, but I checked out the Toshiba at BestBuy and noticed the track pad cursor movement was very choppy. After reading some reviews and looking at the Toshiba support forums, I found that this was a common problem with the T135 series laptops. Toshiba recently issued a fix, but it requires you to send your laptop in to have a part replaced. Glad I chose the Acer, which has a smooth cursor movement and also features a gigabit Ethernet port that the Toshiba lacks (the Toshiba has a 10/100 MBPS Ethernet port).

There are two minor issues with this Acer (these are well documented issues that everyone knows about): The buttons below the track pad are stiffer than I would like and the sound coming from the speakers is on the tinny side. Neither of these are deal breakers, but I do wish Acer (and Toshiba and other makers) would forgo the "one button" look and use two separate buttons for the track pad; two buttons are easier to use and would probably make the button-clicks less stiff.

Overall though, this is an excellent buy for the money, with excellent battery life and decent performance.
